How each one is made

What it can't do

  • Setting up a phone with the Mac erases it once, and you need a Mac. Photos, contacts and messages in iCloud come back; app data does not.
  • The iPhone app pauses apps; it does not remove them. If you want it to stick, that is what the Mac is for.
  • A determined person with a computer can factory-restore a phone back to normal. Right for your own bad nights, kids and grandparents. Not a jail for a motivated teenager.
  • Before anything changes, Tinyphone reads what the phone carries. After every change, it reads again and shows you. Nothing is assumed.

It stays yours

  • Free for one phone on the Mac, and the iPhone app is free. No account for either.
  • The key lives on your Mac, backed up in your own iCloud Keychain. We never see the phone's content.
  • If we disappeared tomorrow, the phone would keep exactly the setup you gave it.

What people ask

Do I need an account?

No. The iPhone app and the Mac app work without one. An account comes with Cloud, to change your phones from your iPhone or the web.

What is the difference between the iPhone app and the Mac?

The iPhone app pauses apps on your own phone and you can undo it. The Mac sets up a phone over a cable so the apps are truly gone and the phone cannot undo it.

Can I change my mind?

Always. On your own phone, in the app. On a phone you set up with the Mac, plug it in and change it in seconds, or change it over the air from your iPhone or the web with Cloud.
